Meet Sophia Snow, Licensed Massage Therapist, Yoga and Qigong Instructor

Why did you want to become a Bodyworker?

As a child I had chronic asthma and a poor immune system and would seem to take forever to get well from every little cold going around - weeks longer than my friends! It fixed in my mind and body a curiosity about what I could do to help myself be more healthy and I feel as though I've spent my entire adulthood finding each next piece of the puzzle, from massage therapy to Yoga instruction to herbalism certification to Qigong. I absolutely love feeling more and more resourced to help my health and wellbeing in different ways, and I love sharing what I learn with others too.

What do you hope your clients feel after working with you?

This question has a couple different answers. In some cases, what I most hope they feel is, well, hope itself. Sometimes our experience in our bodies can be so layered and complex that it's hard to access even the possibility that we could feel better. With the different modalities that I practice, I see this possibility begin to return in small ways, whether it's unexpected joy after Qigong, or Myofascial Release clients believing there might be some relief to pain they've carried for years, or the excitement people feel when they understand that we have so much beautiful herbal medicine growing all around us. In other cases what touches my heart most deeply is when a person begins to develop trust in their own body again. Sometimes that's the trust we feel as we gain the strength and focus to hold a balancing pose in Yoga, or one memorable occasion when a client told me that she had been feeling awkward and self-judging about me massaging her feet. As the session continued, she realized that her feet had carried her all through her life and although she still felt they were a funny shape (oh, gosh. They weren't.), she was grateful that they had brought her so far, and she loved them. These are the moments that fill me with gratitude beyond measure.

What has made you smile recently that you feel the need to share?

All the plants and creatures that live around my rural home! Each day I feel totally charmed by hummingbirds, dragonflies, the little weasel that played outside my window the other day, the bobcat, or the family of young turkeys who lingered in my yard, completely distracting me from the work I was trying to do! Having moved here from living in town, I absolutely love getting to witness so many different beings living so close to me. And the smell of the summer wildflowers every time I step out my door is pure delight.
