Yoga Immersion & Teacher Training (Months 2–3)

If you’re curious about what this years cohort has been up to, you can experience tid bits through these blog updates.

Every year that I guide a group of students through a yoga immersion and teacher training program, my own exploration of yoga deepens. I’m inspired by how different each year is, even though the material being presented is very similar from year to year. The experience each year is shaped by my personal evolution, the unique individuals that I am currently sharing the time with and the moment we are in as a country and world. And all of this changes the texture and landscapes of the planned content. This year’s group consists of sensitive, creative, artistic and wise seekers of depth and truth. It’s been an honor and a joy to gather with them each week.

I’m struck by the timelessness of the yogic texts and foundational spiritual teachings within the yoga traditions. We continue to find relevance, meaning and hope for our current moment in history, which many of us feel is complicated, difficult and painful at this time.

I’m moved by the sincerity, openness and curiosity of this new community. And by the vulnerability that people are willing to step into as we explore new teachings, new places within our bodies, and identify patterns of behaviour that feel like old coats that no longer fit. There’s a clarity of sight that our current students have and it’s a gift to witness what they see, feel and think.

Yoga is so much more than a practice of physical postures - it’s a movement toward realization of our deeper being. The various lineages and traditions of yoga offer countless approaches to exploring our depth. In this immersion we seek the common threads and essential elements of these traditions. This leads us on a journey together, and we all learn from each other as we travel.

Our current students are reminding me of how much wisdom lives within each of us. While much of the material is new for many of them, they are keen observers and steadfast in what they are witnessing about themselves, their relationships and the world around them. There is a collective aspiration to embody/know that “all of life is yoga” and a desire to surrender to a deeper inner Divine call within our day to day lives.

Our immersion/YTT is shaped by many questions, for example: who am I, how do I find safety and experience trust, do I want to surrender to a greater Divine presence, what is my purpose and path, can I feel subtler parts of my body and release when I find myself gripping, tightening or trying to control something? We curiously and compassionately observe ourselves and the nature of reality as we seek the authentic, organic, free Self that underlies all personas and roles that we play.

In these last few weeks, we’ve explored the components of and how to create a satisfying and balancing daily sadhana (spiritual practice). Each person is finding the rhythms and practices that are needed to create what is grounding and harmonious for them as a unique individual being (which invited us all to stop “shoulding” ourselves!!). Our navel centers called us in and we found how our limbs connect to the agni (fire) seated in the middle of our small intestine, and how the region of the samana vayu (one of the 5 Pranic winds that governs movements related to digestion) supports our breath, depth and limbs as they explore the space around them, and then return to center.

We traversed some of the nuances of backbending, such as allowing our hearts to be open on all sides, and to rest back into that which we trust, noticing when fear arises within us. We found our hyoid bones, cobra hoods, pubic symphysis and undulating waves of navel yield to support an integrated and safe backbend. And we explored how forward bending invites sincerity, humility, honoring, bowing, and gratitude into our breath, bodies and minds, while we maintain space and safety throughout our spine and joints.

We explored our embodiment of our feet, ankles and knees and how we can be in a deeper relationship with the beloved Earth as we practice grounding, rooting, and the dance  of “yield-push-receive-rise-reach” as a daily practice. We met various devas (radiant ones) and spent extra time with the Surya (sun) Deva through mantra, four variations of sun salutations and the way the light of the sun can connect us to the light of our soul. This wove into our heart-lungs-shoulders-shoulder blades-arms-wrists-hands in asana. We sought a grounded, balanced and awakened physical and subtle central and peripheral nervous system, the five layers of our awareness and the element that is associated with each one.

If you are curious about all the ins and outs and nitty gritty details of our course curriculum, you can read them here on this doc.

And if you feel the call to be a part of this incredible program, I’m grateful to share that we have our dates for the 2026/27 immersion/yoga teacher training and are due to begin again mid-October. You can see more details here

With much love and blessings as we make our way into this new calendar year of 2026,

Corinne
