Collective Spotlight: Devin Clark

Meet Devin Clark, Licensed Massage Therapist

Why did you want to become a Massage Therapist?

Anatomy was always my favorite class in school. I find the mechanics of the body fascinating-- how structure and movement interact, and how intricately we function. Becoming a bodyworker felt like a natural way to combine that curiosity with my desire to bring relief and help people feel more at home in their bodies. My practice, as well as my personal growth, is enriched by understanding the science of the body to learn how to support functional well-being and then connecting that practice to the peace of mind that comes from nervous system downregulation.

What have you gained from this work?

This work has deepened my connection to the energetic side of healing. Beyond muscles and physical structure, I have come to appreciate the subtle layers of what people carry in their bodies. Holding space for that, both physically and energetically, has been one of the most meaningful parts of my journey. When I receive feedback about the relaxation and peace my clients feel after a session with me it feels like confirmation that I have chosen the right path.

What do you hope your clients feel after working with you?

I hope my clients feel like their bodies and minds are relaxed, cared for, and at ease. Everyone has their own goal for a session and I view it as my role to use my skills to help define and work toward that goal. For deep restorative sessions, my aim is to create a space where the mind can grow quiet, where the body can soften and release accumulated tension. When working more specifically on targeted areas, I want each session to feel like progress toward functional goals. Across all sessions, the hope is, above all else, that my clients walk away feeling that the time we spent together was an investment in their connection to the home of their body.

How does your work inform your activism or understanding of the world?

I've found that building relationships through wellness cultivates a unique sense of support that is so valuable in this day and age. Intentional care can be a powerful reminder that we need not be isolated, despite a culture of rugged individualism that wears bodies down. This work has shaped my understanding of healing as something both personal and collective. It reminds me that small, consistent acts of care offered with presence can have effects that ripple out far beyond the table.

What’s your favorite season of the year and why?

Fall is my favorite season. The way the cool air softens the heat of summer while the sun is still warm on your skin and the steady rhythm of the season feel so grounding to me. It is not extreme in either direction; there is something balanced and steady about Fall that provides the kind of stillness that brings clarity.

What has made you smile recently that you feel the need to share?

Simple acts of kindness always make me smile. From small moments of warm connection, even something as brief as a little wave forward in traffic, to generous offers of shelter from the snow while navigating vanlife in this New England winter. These things remind me that we are connected and strongest when we are giving.
