Asana Lab: Upside Down, Inside and Out: Exploring Yoga Inversions (In-Studio)

  • Sanctuary 150 Main Street Northampton, MA, 01060 United States (map)

with Derek Pashupa Goodwin

Are you intimidated by the thought of standing on your head or your hands? Do you often find yourself opting out of inversions in your yoga practice? This workshop is designed for you! The truth is, once you move through your fears, there is nothing more exhilarating than being upside-down. We will explore, step by step, the asanas that strengthen and prepare you for headstands, shoulderstands, forearm stands, and handstands. You will learn how to safely fall out of inversions, how to protect your neck in shoulderstands, and how to use props to get into the poses while you build strength and courage. We will talk about the psychology of being upside down, how to face your fears, and alternative poses to practice when you are in a group class and the teacher calls out an inversion you aren't ready for. We will use walls and partner exercises to support us.

Derek Pashupa Goodwin loves being upside down. He has trained over 600 hours with Sharon Gannon, David Life, and Amy Ippoliti. He brings over a decade of Acroyoga practice into his inversion teachings.

Saturday, June 24th, 1:30-4:00 PM (in-studio only)

Sliding scale workshop pricing, $40-$80*. Suggested price: $60.
