Yoga Instructor, Energy and Grief Weaver

Jovan Sage, Heart Consoler, Death Midwife, and Grief Weaver, knits together sacred space and heart medicine to guide those navigating deep transformation and tender thresholds of grief.

As a yoga instructor, Sage harmonizes traditional yoga āsāna and spiritual teachings with a diverse ancestry of somatic practices. Prānāyāma, dharana, dhyana and mantra are woven into their teachings.

Their diverse formal yoga teacher training began over 5 years ago, including Trauma Sensitive Yoga with Holle Black, and Trauma-Informed Yoga with My Vinyasa Practice. Most recently Sage completed their 200-level yoga teacher training and made an indelible spiritual pilgrimage to South India with Corinne and Matthew Andrews of Shraddhā Yoga.

Two decades as a contemplative practitioner, Sage’s work is deeply grounded in Tantric Buddhist teachings, yogic traditions, energetic and somatic practices. Just some of their meditative, somatic, and energetic trainings include Tracee Stanley's level 1 and 2 Tantric Meditation, Shanila Sattar’s Flow Breathwork, and Reiki Usui Shiki Ryoho First & Second Degree with Reiki Master Drea Aguilar.

As a space holder and instructor, Sage carries decades of embodied experience and leadership in Black ancestral healing and land practices, queer liberation, plant stewardship and medicine making. They have a vast spectrum of interdisciplinary training, continually dancing with these skills to serve historically marginalized communities in many ways including as a full-spectrum doula, a decolonial nutrition advocate, and trans-queer reproductive educator. Their teaching centers each body’s way-knowing, the tending thresholds, and honoring communities of Ancestors, people, plant, and animal kin.
