Jai Hanuman!

  • Yoga Sanctuary

with Lisa Leizman E-RYT 200

Who are you? You, with the serpentine tail, crooked jaw
and a heart full of life. You, who delight in hearing all of
the stories that we tell about you. You, who live as long
as love itself. Who are you? You are Hanuman!-- beloved
monkey, devoted friend, child of the wind.
In this workshop, we will gather to celebrate Hanuman’s
birthday as we explore the great adventure that is his life.
Through asana, philosophy, pranayama, meditation
(and, of course, some monkey business…), we will enter the
extraordinary heart of Hanuman-- abundant, full of wonders
and beating forever inside of us all.
This is a workshop for all levels.

A Philosophy Weekend with Douglas Brooks

What shall we do now?
A Practice for a New Conversation:
The Great Goddess of the Serpents, Mānasā Durga, and the Sarpa-Drshti

Events have brought us to a conversation that leads us further into the shadows of our human experience. We grieve and rage, we feel a vulnerability that compares only to our most personal and collective fears, and there is no promise that "everything will be okay." We need ways to find ourselves inside and out so that we can take the next steps to tell our stories and protect ourselves from those who would silence us. We are searching for our voices and this "difficult going" does not leave us helpless or alone. Our focus is a form of the Great Goddess named Manasa, the Mind Born One, who wears serpents in her hair and holds within her the empowerment of the shadow. We will learn a practice of the Manasa Durga, the Goddess of Difficult Going. The practice is called sarpa drishti, the "serpent's vision" which takes us deeply into our places where we feel most vulnerable but also most resourceful and empowered. We will open that to that place where we can focus our rage, reach more deeply into empathy and inclusion, and take seriously the very real changes and threats before us. We are not alone or helpless. Quite the contrary. We know this is real and we need all the resources we can muster. We will learn mantra, meditation, and teachings to take us deeper so that we can emerge breathing and moving forward.

with Sara Rose

10am-12pm

As 2016 winds down and nature’s darkness embraces us,
the storms of the outer world stir our hearts.Together we will
gather in the warmth of community, on the last day of the year,
to honor what has been and envision the world we want to
co-create. We will celebrate our blessings, honor our challenges
and grieve our losses. As we let go, we turn our hearts to the
new year and all of its possibilities. We will invoke
Ganesha- the mythic elephant -headed god who represents
the auspiciousness of new beginnings and invites us to be
grounded in what matters to us most as we transition into
the new and expand into an ever greater version  of ourselves.
This mixed level class will balance opening, energizing
and grounding sequences with ample relaxation and meditation
time in which to contemplate your intentions for the NewYear*
(There will be the option of writing or extra restorative poses-
bring a journal if you like to write!)

Embodying the Organs

  • Yoga Sanctuary

Come take a deeper look into your body-mind through exploration of the organ system. This workshop is a blend of Embodyoga® principles and Chinese Five Element Theory. In Chinese Medicine, our organs hold and express certain emotions and aspects of who we are. In Yoga, we can use organs for deeper support of our movements to take Yoga postures beyond the muscular-skeletal system. We will learn from these two approaches to practice how to embody more of what makes us whole. The practice will be deep and slow.
