History
Yoga Sanctuary opened its doors at 191 Main St. in downtown Northampton in January 2002 under the direction of Sara Rose.
YS was originally located in Florence, MA where it was co-founded by Sara Rose and Tara Starling in 1999. The Florence studio was co-directed by Sara and Tara until December 2001. PHILOSOPHY
Classes at Yoga Sanctuary provide a supportive, compassionate and inspiring environment in which students are encouraged to practice at their own pace. Our center was inspired by the vision and intention of creating a sacred and uplifting space for individuals, familes, and people of all ages in the community. We offer playful and nurturing classes for children ages 4-12, and fun, relaxing and supportive classes for teens. We offer classes for all levels of ability; no one is too young, too old or too stiff to begin yoga and enjoy its healing benefits! We also offer special workshops and events, which may include classes in dance, music, drumming, and kirtan or devotional chanting.
Yoga is an ancient practice which originated in India. Yoga practice was designed to create optimal health and balance in all systems of one's body and being. As a spiritual practice, yoga recognizes the body as the sacred home of the spirit.
THE STUDIO
The Yoga Sanctuary studio is on the 3rd floor of the Mountain Goat store building. We have 1200 square feet of beautiful space with new maple flooring and large windows with great views of the Holyoke Range. There are clean bathrooms just outside the studio.
All necessary yoga props are provided, though students are welcome
to bring their own. Props and local artwork are available for
sale in our store.
